TRYING TO FORGET

TRYING TO FORGET WHAT YOU’D BEEN
AND ‘WHAT’S HER NAME?’
TO LIVE WHITHOUT A FACE
TO NEVER DARE TO LOVE AGAIN
ALL ALONE
WITH A HANDFUL OF HURT
DOESN’T THAT SOUND LIKE SOMETHING ALREADY HEARD?

INEVITABLY YOU FIND YOURSELF
BACK IN THE GAME
SAME OLD HEART ON THE SLEEVE
ON BORROWED TIME
AT A DIFFERENT PLACE
MR. AND MS. RIGHT
DAY PASS LOVERS
ON YOUR LOVELY ROLLERCOASTER RIDE

OH WHAT WOULD IT TAKE
TO REWRITE THE PLAY
CHANGE THE SEQUENCE OF THESE MUSICAL CHAIRS?
THE CHOICE IS MINE TO TAKE THE REIGNS
AND SLOW THE TEMPO OF THIS GAIT, YOU SAY
BUT HOW CAN I GET IT STRAIGHT AND NEVER ERR AGAIN

IT’S NOW BACK AT THE BAR
A VISION NEVER REALIZED
ALWAYS THE SAME WRONG TURN
REFLEXIVE SWITCHING ‘TIL YOU BURN
FACE IN THE BOTTLE
EMPTY OF MIND
TELL ME THAT STORY ONE MORE TIME
